Descent of the Holy Spirit

True to Your promise,
You sent us the Holy Spirit,
to teach and to guide us.
A burning flame, a holy desire for You
that You’ve placed in our hearts, Oh Lord.
Your Holy Spirit
with whom we share Your passion,
and proclaim Your love.

Show us how to receive You,
how to share You, oh Lord.
Give us Your words.
Strengthen us in Your purpose.
Protect our hearts,
as we join with all who love You
in proclaiming
Your Truth to our world.
Your Being in our being.
Your Love with our love.

Teach us how to see
all the opportunities You offer us each day,
to serve and to share Your love and mercy.
To perceive the people and experiences,
as they approach us, move past us, as holy invitations
for us to participate in the eternal flow of Your love.
The Pure Love, which You share with the Father,
which You long to share with us.

Bless the evangelists among us
and help us to have ears
to hear their teachings and stories.
Teach us to speak Your Words, too, Father,
as You call others to Yourself through us.

As You do, give them ears prepared to hear
and hearts, we pray, Oh Lord, filled with longing —
a longing satisfied by naught else, save You—
as, with the flow of Your love through us,
we return to You all that is Yours.
