This reading is a striking one. But it sure gets our attention, doesn’t it. Bishop Barron and other priests along the way have reminded us that Jesus was a Jewish man, steeped in Jewish ways and figures of speech and speaking. The image helps when I think of him looking right at me and challenging me with just a hint of a smile, then saying, ‘Love Me first. I’ll show you how to do the rest the right way.’
